MEDIA MIGRATION

Every organization with an investment in images needs to consider whether the media being used today will still be viable in the future. That's one of the main reasons for scanning in the first place; digital files are more useful today than negatives, slides and prints. But will there be CD-ROM drives in five years to read your discs? And what about your discs? Are they deteriorating in quality and readability now?

Remember the Syquest cartridge? They were the predominant storage media in graphic arts departments only five years ago. They are gone today and there are few drives left that can read them. Don't get caught betting on the wrong media!
